Walk Around Emerald Bay, Poum

by Jane Herron on September 14, 2009 · 12 comments

Hi Everyone

Well I promised that I’d let you know how our adventures were going in the South Pacific. Here I am in Emerald Bay, Poum, I’m afraid that it was only a quick visit , so I had my uniform on and as you can see I walked to the lookout point in my  high heels, which was not a good idea!  I don’t recommend it!

Lots of people kept stopping me to see if I wanted a hand.  But it was no problem- I made it all the way up and down without a hitch.

Next time I’ll be sure to put my shorts and training shoes on as there are lots of nice sandy beaches to walk on. The BBQ was beautiful and the smell wafting around was mouth watering. But alas there were no shops, so nothing for me to buy!.

All was not lost, I came back onboard and bought myself a lovely new Omega necklace from one of Pacific Dawn’s boutiques.

my son rodrigo and his girlfriend karina are passengers at pacific dawn and they’re enjoying so much this trip.
karina said “it’s like a fairy tale!” and rodrigo “the ship is amazing, everything is amazing!”.
have a nice trip!

Hi there,
My son and partner are currently on the Dawn. If you happen to come across Richard Monaghan and Kylie Waterman tell them that Chloe (aged 8) and Keira aged 5) said A big hello to Daddy and Kylie and hope they are having a great time!
Look forward to hearing all the news on their return.
Thanks heaps,
Sue, Chloe and Keira

Hi Jedda,

Yes you’re right. It was from the previous cruise, and the post had been delayed a few days before being posted. I’ll look to having them date stamped in future.

Hi, I have booked a cruise on Pacific Dawn for my husband, myself and our 2 daughters.

I’m so excited as I went on the Oriana when I was 17 some years ago now. We are leaving on 1 April 2010 to go to Vanuatu. My husband is not happy as he says its not his kind of holiday, (although he can’t tell me why) I keep trying to tell him he’ll have a great time once he’s there. Any positive comments for him from anybody??

Hi Michelle my wife and I have just come back from a 9 day cruise on the Dawn it was a fantastic time we had a ball my wife has never been outside of Australia before and she always gets sea sick on the manly ferry well she took sea sick tablets one day before we sailed and the first day at sea and she was fine I to havent been on a cruise for years and yes i was also on the Oriana in 1980 so things have changed it was great i really enjoyed the snorkling I got in at Poum and Lifou it was great. Tell your husband he will have the time of his life and we are looking at booking again for next October. If he likes his food well he will be in his glory.

Have a great time

Michelle, cruises are fantastic although can’t please everyone.
I would suggest to relax and have a few cocktails. Do what you like when you like. Don’t rush, explore whole ship from top to bottom.
I have herd people say the same as you. One man in our area didn’t really want to go with his wife. When they returned from cruise he is now a walking P & O brochure.
He has nothing but good things to say and won’t stop talking about when will his next cruise be.
Some people get addicted straight away and some it takes a few cruises to catch the cruising bug.
I am going in January and I know my hubby likes things I don’t, so he will go to Casino and I will go to pool with our kids. We will all go in different directions on our cruise. I will also go & check out shops onboard & explore all areas of the ship.
Try buffet and then try sit down reasturant, where you are served (for all meals, breakfast, lunch & dinner). I always try everything although at lunch, last cruise didn’t want to get dressed up to go in reasturant, so I just went to buffet with my cozzie & a beach dress on.
Men must wear shirt and enclosed shoes in reasturant. No thongs or singlet tops. So buffet at lunch is great for this attire.
Have you checked out sample menus on P & O website? they are really good & they do change everyday.
Click on what ship you are on: eg: Pacific Dawn, then Dining then click on sample menu – They are all underlined, breakfast, lunch & dinner.
Have a great time.

I mean menus onboard usually change every day. Not sample menu.

Michelle,

We took my Dad on a cruise with us in 2005, and he had the same attitude right up to the day we cruised. On the second day sitting around the dinner table, he looked at my Mum, my partner & I and said “what was I worried about??” A week after we got back, he was insiting on booking the next one! Since that first cruises he’s been on 2 more and has another booked for next year.

Don’t worry – once your hubby’s on board and getting involved, he’ll love it.

Hey thanks Rob, Jen and Kym for your replies. Can’t wait for the cruise now on 1 April 2010, I can finally say, THIS YEAR! My girls and I went to the cruise terminal to see Pacific Dawn makes its first voyage from Brisbane, counting down the days and my husband is actually warming to the idea, I THINK. Well he now says he is going which is a big step as he hadn’t made up his mind until about 1month ago. I think he may have been a little scared about being sea sick but I’m gonna make sure we all have the tablets the day before and on the first day to prevent any sickness.

Happy cruising!
