Did you see Pacific Dawn on Getaway?

Last week, Pacific Dawn featured on Chanel 9’s Getaway show as they showcased the best holidays in the South Pacific. If you missed the episode or if you’d like to see it again, you can watch it now on the Getaway website by clicking here.

Here’s what they had to say about Pacific Dawn:

Australia is so fortunate to have the islands of the South Pacific within easy reach. Every year honeymooners, families and singles fly to an island of choice and come back wanting to do it again.

However, to visit more than one of the islands — and they are all so different — Natalie Gruzlewski recommends boarding one of P&O Cruises’ superliners to get a taste of them. Check their website for departure dates: www.pocruises.com.au

In late 2007 P&O introduced their first superliner: Pacific Dawn. It’s based in Australia and cruises the Pacific year round to fulfill demand. It’s not surprising cruising is so popular. There are no airport hassles once you’re on board; just be welcomed aboard, unpack once and have everything is done for you. There’s great food, entertainment for adults and children, lazy days at sea and fantastic destinations. Forty percent of those on board are return passengers.

Pacific Dawn can carry 2050 passengers, though the average cruise runs with around 1800 with people travelling solo choosing to stay in double rooms. Almost 700 crew members take care of your every whim — that averages out to one crew member for every three passengers. One of those crew members spends the day creating fabulous ice sculptures!

The superliner has 11 decks and 795 cabins made up of 440 standard outside cabins and 171 standard inside cabins. Of the 134 outside cabins, 14 suites and 36 mini-suites have a private balcony. Currency and electricity plugs are Australian, so how easy is that!

There are two pools, whirlpool spas, sauna and steam rooms. The ship has five dining areas, nine bars and lounges and live shows every night. You can take dance lessons, play table tennis, join in bingo games and trivia quizzes, take art and craft classes, stay fit on the jogging track and make everyone at home envious when you e-mail them from the internet cafe. You can even do some duty-free shopping on board. A daily newsletter outlines activities and you can decide what you want to do over a leisurely breakfast.

The Dome entertainment area and observation lounge was designed by world-renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano. It rocks at night. The viZion light show transforms the three-level atrium into a light and sound production three times every cruise.

To keep everyone happy, Pacific Dawn has three children’s clubs. Turtle Cove caters for the three- to seven-year-olds, the Shark Shack is for seven- to 12-year-olds and HQ is for teens only. Strictly no adults allowed.

It’s an adventure when you’re in port, jumping ship and hoping aboard a tender craft. Locals will be there to meet you and while they would like you to buy their wares, they do give you a genuine welcome to their island.

The segment was a BIG YAWN! No real information or impressions. Why are facts so hard to provide on a show?
Anyway, through other sources, I am eagerly awaiting my trip starting August 17 for 14 nights. Hope to be able to highly recommend the trip on my return. Mini-suites must be a great way to travel!

Did anyone see the 1 hour special on cruising Saturday 16th August on TV. I just turned the TV on the last 5 minutes of the show and saw cruise ships. Looked like Pacific Sun was on. The presenter said that is the end of our cruising special. Dam I missed it. The last 5 minutes looked fantastic, a lot better that what was shown on Getaway.
I would have liked to know it was going to be on so I may have recorded it, like alot of other shows I have recorded on Cruising.

    Hi Leanne,
I agree totally P & O should be so disappointed with what was shown on Getaway. Our girls said they could have done a lot better job with pictures and little video we took. It didn’t show anything to make people think twice about going on a cruise with them. We phoned our parents and sister to watch the show as we have convinced them to come on the Christmas cruise with us this year, They too were disappointed Mum and Dad said seeing the kids enjoying themselves was good but they would have loved to see more of the ship. Hope there is something on another show going to do something similar. But hey you will have the time of your lives on the cruise we do and our girls loved it so much they didn’t want to get off, they forgot about mobiles, internet, tv and all that stuff, they didn’t even think of it, Hope you have a ball.

Opps, I meant Saturday 15th August

  • SandyY

Jen, which channel was it on and about what time?

  • Jen

I think it was 6 or 6.30pm. The Great Outdoors tv show. Saturday 15th. It would have been previous shows on cruising, maybe filmed years ago and put together to have a cruising special. eg: Pacific Sun does not have a waterslide anymore. So some ships may have changed a little. But what I saw at the end looked really good.

Thanks Jen, I remember seeing part of it now. Just watched the video – it’s still on the Channel 7 Site. It was only the last segment and showed the Pacific Sun as well as one of the other lines’ ships – Rhapsody?? – which had a rock-climbing wall and skating rink.

    Hi P & O,
Are you going to update the Shore Tours on your website. They all end 31 July 2009.
I would like to see if the camel tour at Whitsundays will be still on in January 2010 when we go on our cruise.

  • admin

    Hi Jen,

Yes the Camel Tour will definitely be available for your cruise. The website is being updated at the moment and will reflect this very soon.

Hi all, im happy to say we travelled on the christmas cruise back in 2007… had a fantastic time. The pacific dawn is a really great ship, each ship has its own personality, and she left a good impression on our family. We are going again for christmas 2010, but this time in a mini suite. The crew and cabin stewards do a wonderful job, and we are looking forward to our next adventure….happy cruising, you will love it!
